Our History
It all started…
In the Spring of 2010, Liz Collier and Lori Mach from the Texas Home Office Underwriters Association in Dallas began exploring the establishment of a regional conference to be situated in Texas. Contact was made with Ginger Forrest with the Central Texas Home Office Underwriters Association for assistance with the initial planning. Hank George and Bill Tilford provided support and shortly thereafter, a date for a conference in 2011 was selected. Hank and Bill also contacted underwriters in the Houston area, and the Texas Gulf Coast Association was born. From that nascent group, Sharon Baughman joined the TWUC planning committee.
We are a non-profit group of underwriters from across the U.S. who gather once a year for presentations and panel discussions by the insurance industry's leading experts. Our focus is on education and networking for our attendees.
In 2011, the first Texas-Wide Underwriting Conference was held from April 3-5, at the Hilton in Waco, Texas. The Planning Committee included: Sharon Baughman, Liz Collier. Lori Mach, Simone Moore and Eric Storey, with special thanks to Richard Odom, Hank George and Bill Tilford.
April 2011: IRS EIN was obtained
November 2011: TWUC Articles of Association were signed
November 2011: Application made for IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status
2012 was held March 18- 20, at the Westin Galleria in Houston, Texas. Planning committee: Sharon Baughman, Liz Collier, Lori Mach, Simone Moore, Richard Odom, and Eric Storey.
October 2012: 501(c)(3) status was granted by the IRS for TWUC and non-profit status with the state of Texas followed shortly thereafter
