In 2019, TWUC introduced an Educational Scholarship Program to provide learning opportunities for underwriters in their early to mid-careers who are passionate about expanding their underwriting skills and knowledge. In honor of the many contributions of founding TWUC member, Liz Collier, we are excited to announce the scholarship has been renamed The Liz Collier TWUC Scholarship.

The Liz Collier scholarship program is now open for 2024!

The 2024 Liz Collier Scholarship will be awarded to two recipients who will receive complimentary registration and hotel accommodations to the 2024 Texas-Wide Underwriting conference October 2nd-4th at the Hilton in Waco, Texas.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full-time life, disability, or critical illness insurance underwriter

  • Successful completion of at least one underwriting industry course or equivalent medical certification

  • Approval from company manager to attend the conference

To apply for the 2024 Liz Collier Scholarship, please fill out the form below no later than July 15, 2024. The following information is required:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number

  • Current employer, job title, and total years of underwriting experience

  • List of insurance industry courses completed and/or medical certification(s)

  • List any underwriting conferences previously attended with the date(s) attended

  • A short summary (500 words or less) describing why you are interested in attending TWUC

  • Your manager’s name, email address, and phone number

A little background on the scholarship recipient:

“I was born in Monterrey, Mexico and came to Texas when I was 13. I started working at National Western Life in November 1999 in the International Mail Department, then I was invited to join the International Client Services Department. In 2008, I had the opportunity to join the Underwriting Department. After 10 years and two promotions, I’m a Senior Underwriter and I love my job! I’m married and have two kids. I like to go on walks, travel and serve at my church.”
